Dream: IO psychologist
Touchstone: chance to help people, knowledge about a company and being able to create a better place to work for employees
Role model: Terry Belian
Target: get a PhD in industrial and organizational psychology
I am about to get my BA in psychology this December and I would love to continue on my studies. However, the field I want to concentrate on is industrial and organizational psychology. I was always torn between psychology and business, and at first I majored in business, and shortly after that I switched to psychology, and then kind of looked back, wondering if I have made the right choice, because I missed business, but it was pretty late to switch back. This semester I started my internship in industrial and organizational psychology at Aflac and I absolutely love the feel of business in my duties and still being in psychology. I decided this is what I want to do, and my dream is to become a IO psychologist. My touchstone would be the ability to create a better work environment for employees, and help them out with any work stresses they might be experiencing. My role model is Terry Belian, he is the husband of a lady I babysit for. He majored in the same field as me and is very successful at what he does. My target is to obtain my PhD in IO psychology.
After taking Myers-Briggs test, my results showed that I am an ENFJ type of personality. I agree with a lot of things I have read about my type. First of all, it said that I should pursue my career in counseling, psychology, and social work, as my top picks, which is what I am doing. It said I enjoy helping people. It said that I am the "Giver" and I deal with things externally and according to how I feel about them, and secondly I listen to my intuition. I agree with the intuition part, I think I have a pretty strong sense of intuition, however, many times I ignore it, and I shouldn't. It also said that I put people's needs in front of mine, and this is very true, I have always been like that and I don't think I'll ever change. My personality is people-focused and I have great people skills. I support others, really try my best to understand them, and encourage good things in them. It also said I am pretty demanding and I'll make people give me what I want (I think my boyfriend would really agree with that...he he) I also agree about me being organized, and structured, as well as honest. I think I am a very honest person, I know everyone lies and of course I have before, but mostly I try to always be very honest to people. In the description of my personally it said that I don't like to be alone...It kind of depends for me. I don't like to be single, because I feel lonely. However, when everything in my life is in place, I do enjoy some alone time and just have some time to myself to read or clean up my house. If I am having relationship problems, I want to be alone; people bother me by asking me questions and trying to get into my business. I do have a strong need for intimate relationships, and that's what my type has shown. I think my results very pretty accurate and expressed the person I really am.

I am an ENFJ as well, looking back on a major I switched from sometimes I wonder if it is the right decision. However, to see you incorporate both majors to satisfy your touch stone has got me thinking. Sounds like a good plan, I didn't even know there was such thing as industrial psychology.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes how accurate the Meyer-Briggs test is!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nomi, I never knew there was a career in Industrial Psychology.
Great Job!
